Italy, Day 1
We arrived at the airport Wednesday afternoon for our flight from Charlotte, NC to Frankfurt, Germany. Our departure was delayed but our excitement was not as we settled into the sea of khaki-colored Germans and took a deep breath. Was this really happening? We were really about to walk away from our life and business for three weeks to tour Italy?... Um, hell yes.
With a lengthy "We're off!" email to our friends and family, we officially launched this site, and ourselves, into the world.
On our super-sized plane we met Judy from Florida. She was the first to jovially point out that we were wearing matching polka dot pants. (Yes, you heard that right. Polka. Dots... And yes, there was of course a shopping spree before heading to the world's fashion capital. Duh.)
Judy was a lovely, animated woman who shared her People magazine with me so I could catch up on Madeleine Albright's passing and the forthcoming Royal Baby. As we watched our plane's avatar make it's way across the Atlantic, we learned that Judy was also heading to Italy. Her family purchased property in a remote village on Lake Como so I shared the only thing I knew about the area asking if she was neighbors with George Clooney. Not neighbors, she replied, but he did frequent the private golf course in her village and was known for being friendly. Cue the swooning ladies everywhere. Oh, George.
She eagerly shared some tips and a few key Italian phrases like "piacere" (pleasure to meet you) with colorful memetic devices for improved retention ("pee on a chair and say hey!")
Too excited to find sleep during our 8 hour flight, we were charged up from her infectious energy and ready to pass through German customs.
