CELEBRATE GROWTH

I've been making art my entire life.

Correction: I've been making art with somebody else my entire life.

From exchanging drawings for animal-shaped chocolates in third grade, to running a design studio and gallery, to teaching, speaking and facilitating, given a choice to do anything at all, I will always choose to center my life around art.

Up to this point, I've had a natural proclivity to make art with somebody else. Client, patron, student, partner — working with talented collaborators, not to mention being married to one, is like rubbing salt on an open, vulnerable wound.

“In this world, there are things you can only do alone, and things you can only do with somebody else. It’s important to combine the two in just the right amount.”

— HARUKI MURAKAMI, AFTER DARK*

Today, a project that began as a collaborative Social experiment, Celebrate Small has become a personal project and part of this site. My hope is that continuing this work alone will give it room to ebb, flow and unabashedly freak out. In fact, I've already started thinking on a 2015 collection. It seems I'm already ready to make some more.

And, with your support, I'll never have to do any of this alone.

* I have no idea if this author or book or any good at all, I just really liked the quote. Peace.
